Velma Carroll

Velma Carroll, 80, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on Aug. 12, 1935, in Williamston, N.C., to George Robert and Effie Juanita (Coltrain) Silverthorne.
She was a member and attended Crossroads Baptist Church. She was a kind, giving woman who loved shopping, cooking and watching game shows. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Carroll.
Her survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Eric Sharp of Valdosta, Trish Matthews of Louisiana; five grandchildren, Jeff Carroll, Chris Carroll (Katherine), Corey Carroll, Courtney Martinez, Kalen Gould; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016, in the chapel of Music Funeral Services in Valdosta, with burial to follow in New Bethel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
