Alvin L. Green Sr.

Alvin L. Green Sr., 85, of Twin Lakes, passed away on Jan. 24, 2016, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Brooks County on Sept. 10, 1930, to the late George Washington Green Sr. and Sarah Guess Green.
Mr. Green served in the Army National Guard as a staff sergeant before starting a career with Owens-Illinois, a career that he eventually retired from. He was also a retired member and past Chief of the Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and attended many festivals dedicated to the music. Mr. Green was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an active member of Lake Park Church of Christ.
Mr. Green is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Alvin L. Green Jr. and girlfriend Sue Copeland of Lake Park, Lloyd and Devona Green of Lowndes County; his grandchildren, Robert and his wife Kelly Green of Lake Park, Afton Green of Valdosta; stepgrandson, Casey Collier of Savannah; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Green of Lake Park; stepgreat- granddaughter, Kendall Collier of Savannah; a brother, William Green of Hahira; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruby Coppage of Valdosta, Christine and John Tucker of Macon; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Wetherington Green; his brother, George W. Green Jr.; a brother-in-law, Bill W. Coppage.
A graveside service for Alvin L. Green Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the youth group at Lake Park Church of Christ, 910 Long Pond Road, Lake Park, GA 31636.
