Gordon prepared to dress to impress

VALDOSTA — Lewis Gordon has a particular style.
Gordon, along with Tammy Crosby, perused the racks of the Goodwill Retail Store’s clothing section to find something for Gordon to wear during the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority’s inaugural “Beyond the Runway” thrift store fashion show.
Goodwill will provide garments for the fashion show, held 2-4 p.m., Saturday Feb. 20 at the VLPRA’s Senior Center, 1360 E. Park Ave. The event is open to the public and tickets cost $5.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at the VLPRA’s website, www.vlpra.com.
Donations and proceeds from the thrift store fashion show will go toward travel fees for the Special Olympics athletes who travel four times per year.
Gordon has been a Special Olympics Athlete for nearly 30 years and Crosby is the VLPRA therapeutic supervisor.
Gordon, who has won six consecutive gold medals at Special Olympics events, likes to wear hats and “always looks like he’s going on an adventure,” Crosby said.
Gordon’s hats are part of his “signature look,” Crosby said.
While shopping for clothes Tuesday to wear during the fashion show, Gordon said he would probably focus on button up shirts, which he also likes to wear.
Gordon said he was excited for the upcoming show.
“Always excited,” he said.
