Lt. Robert Guthrie

Lt. Robert Guthrie, 43, of Nashville, Ga., passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016 at Baptist Health Center in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born on June 19, 1972 in Valdosta, Ga. to Phillip Askew Guthrie of Nashville and the late Violet Marie (Holloway) Guthrie. He was currently a Lieutenant for the Lowndes County Sheriff s Department where he worked for the past 18 years. He began his public service when he was 16 years old as a volunteer for the Berrien County EMS.  He selflessly served the citizens of the Berrien, Lanier, Cook and Lowndes County in law enforcement for over two decades.  Behind his Savior and his family, community protection was his passion.   He was a devoted husband, father, son and brother.  Along with his mother he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents.  

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Janiece Guthrie of Nashville, Ga.; daughter, Violet Guthrie of Nashville, Ga.; Father, Phillip Guthrie of Nashville, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Kellie Guthrie of Lake Park, Ga., Henry and Jamie Guthrie of Springfield, Ohio; special aunt, Sandra Leslie of Ocilla, Ga.; special cousin, Michelle Apperson of Ocilla, Ga.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Pat Evans of Valdosta; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith and Melissa Evans of Lake Park, Kevin Evans of Valdosta; sister-in-lLaw and finance, Missy Epling and Bill Suggs of Valdosta; and a number of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.  on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 at Southside Baptist Church on the Valdosta/Lakeland Highway with burial to follow in the Guthrie Cemetery in Berrien County, Ga. The family will receive friends this evening, Feb. 2, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at the church.
