VALDOSTA — Two men face weapons charges following a Saturday incident, according to the Valdosta Police Department.
At about 1:45 a.m., the police narcotics unit received information about possible illegal weapons activity in the 100 block of South Troup Street, according to a police department press release. Detectives said they saw two men leaving a local club, appearing agitated and taking off jewelry as they walked quickly toward a vehicle, according to the police.
The pair were reportedly yelling profanities as one of them retrieved a handgun from their vehicle before getting into the car and driving off, the press release said. Detectives carried out a traffic stop on the car, searched it and said they found two .380 caliber handguns.
Terrill Blackshear, 26, was charged with carrying concealed weapon; James Ware, 34, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was found to have an active arrest warrant through the state of Georgia, according to police.
The observed behavior of the subjects, combined with the immediate retrieval of the firearm by one of the suspects, suggested that a violent act was about to occur, police suggested. “Citizens are encouraged to continue notifying the Valdosta Police Department if they observe suspicious behavior” said Lieutenant Adam Bembry.
