VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University will be hosting a concert at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium April 15, pending approval from the Valdosta Board of Education.
Board members discussed the facilities use agreement between the school district and the university at its meeting Tuesday night.
The agreement, although not yet finalized, would require the university to pay $7,000 to use the stadium from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
A stipulation in the contract states, “No vehicles of any type will be permitted on the football field.”
VSU is working to remove that clause.
Board members said they are concerned a vehicle could damage the field.
“I don’t have a concern with a specific kind of concert,” board member Stacy Bush said. “I think we should work as much as we can with VSU. I have a concern about the specific kind of vehicle.”
VSU said it is still finalizing concert details and will release information, including the performer, at a later date.
Attorneys for both school systems will develop a contract up for a vote the next board meeting, Tuesday, March 22.
The board also voted to declare the 1991 Chevy 66 passenger bus 30 as surplus. Dr. Alvin Hudson, assistant superintendent of operations, said the bus is no longer operable.
The BOE will hold a public hearing on the Strategic Waivers School System application 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, prior to the board meeting.
“The application is a petition to create a Strategic Waivers School System to provide increased flexibility for local school systems,” a press release stated.
The meeting and public hearing will be held at Pinevale Elementary School, 930 Lake Park Road.
