Walter Randolph “Randy “ Hatch

Walter Randolph “Randy “ Hatch, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Mar. 11.  Randy leaves a legacy of wonderful experiences and loving family memories.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Glenda Crews Hatch, his children, Ryan Hatch (Hillary), John “Jay” Hatch and Heather Hatch McInnis (Joshua), and five grandchildren.  He is also survived by his siblings Sandra Anusavice (Ken), Sharon Mitchell and Joel Hatch (Cynthia), and many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.  Very close to his heart are Robert and Carol Harmon, his brother and sister in-law.  A host of friends are also among those who will miss Randy.

Randy spent much of his life working to help his father, uncle and cousins build a successful business.  He served as County Commissioner for Suwannee County for eight years, and in leadership positions on several local, regional and state-wide boards and committees.  Randy loved serving his community and helping others whenever a need was made known to him. He enjoyed participating in the political process and assisted in the formation of legislation benefitting agriculture and small counties.  He loved to solve problems, tell stories, and make people laugh.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family and particularly his grandchildren, who were the lights of his life.

He will be deeply missed.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Daniels Funeral Home in Branford, Fla.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, Mar. 16 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Daniels Funeral Home, 408 Northwest Suwanee Avenue, Branford, Florida.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 17 at Living Springs Family Worship Center, 26471 State Road 247, Branford, Fla.  Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to The Randy Hatch Memorial Scholarship Fund at Capital City Bank, 814 Suwannee Avenue, Branford, Fla. 32901 for the benefit of his grandchildren.

James “Jim” Marvin Taylor Jr.

James “Jim” Marvin Taylor Jr., age 78, passed away from complications of ongoing health problems in the afternoon of Mar. 8, 2016. Jim was born in Williston, Fla. to James and Marie Taylor. Jim was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and a professional businessman. He loved sports and was a diehard Gator fan, and enjoyed fishing and hunting, along with spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; three sons, Russell (Christina), Billy, and Brian (Sarah); grandchildren, Ben, Nathan, Ashlynn, Brett and Beau, brother, Harry Taylor (Clara), sister, Martha Lively (Jim), and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Belleview on Friday, Mar. 18 at 1:30 p.m.  Cremation handled by Florida Cremation, Ocala.

Marshall William Mercer

Nov. 25, 1976 – Mar. 8, 2016

Marshall William Mercer, 39, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday evening, Mar. 8, 2016 at the Shands at University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville after an extended illness. He was born in Gainesville to Joan Ann Fleming Showalter and the late Leroy Silas Mercer on Nov. 25, 1976. He has been a life-long resident of the Live Oak & Lake City Area. He was an avid Seminole fan, and loved to tinker with computers. He also like to tinker with car stereos in his spare time and go to car show competitions, which he won a few. He also loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the Salem Primitive Baptist Church here in Lake City.

He is survived by his daughter: Londyn Breann Mercer of Live Oak; mother: Joan Showalter of Lake City; maternal grandmother: Janie Fleming of Lake City; brothers: Charles Thomas (Tabatha) Mercer of Lake City and Leroy Silas Mercer of Live Oak; sister: Denise Marie Martinez of Live Oak along with very close and dear cousins: Kevin and Nathan Mercer also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Mercer will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Mar. 14, in the Salem Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Herman Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, Mar. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the chapel of the Funeral Home. Karel E. Svoboda

Karel E. Svoboda, 84, of Live Oak, Fla. passed away on Monday, Mar. 14, 2016.  The Kewaunee, WI native lived in Live Oak for over 58 years.  He worked as an electrician and retired from Buckeye Paper Mill after 30 years of service.  Mr. Karel proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was longtime member of the American Legion, VFW and Elks Lodge.  He was a dedicated member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Mr. Svoboda is survived by his wife of 58 years:  Joann Svoboda; two daughters:  Janet Shepard (Allen), Tallahassee, Fla.; Carla Renfroe (Michael), Live Oak, Fla.; and two grandsons:  Chad Renfroe (Michele) and Eric Rice.

There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 16 at Daniels Funeral Home, Live Oak, Fla..  A graveside funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 17 at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, 15824 169th Rd, McAlpin, Fla. 32062.
