The county has had an agreement with Advanced Disposal to serve unincorporated Lowndes County since 2012. The county included Deep South Sanitation in its services after a lengthy legal battle.

Under the ordinance, both companies are required to pay the County a franchise fee of $3 per ton of residential garbage collected by the franchise. Residents who contract with either company must pay $12.80 per month, or $153.60 per year.

The County established the ordinance, according to official documents, in compliance with Georgia statutes for “protecting the public health, safety and general welfare” of unincorporated Lowndes County.
