- Savannah Brown connected on two of the four home runs against Madison.
The Suwannee High School softball team put on a power display in a 15-5 run-rule victory over Madison County High School on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs pounded nine extra-base hits, including a season-high four home runs.
Madison played well at the start. The Cowgirls put together a four-run fourth inning to get within two runs at 6-4.
SHS put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take back control of the game. Lady Bulldogs coach Jeff Smith was happy with the way his team responded.
“What I was proud of was when we gave up four runs in one inning and we came back and got five runs back in the bottom of the inning,” Smith said. “They don’t give up.”
Suwannee scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to win by the 10-run rule.
Center fielder Savannah Brown lined two laser home runs that got out of Rick Norris Field in a hurry. She went to straightaway center field in the first inning. She and Blakely Burch hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning.
Burch connected on a slow change-up from Madison starter Hannah Cooper for a two-run bomb. Brown followed with a liner to right-center field, her fifth home run of the season.
Senior Alexis Brown slammed the fourth and final home run in the sixth, a two-run shot. She finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Kasey Frazier went 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Jordan Roberts had a double and was walked three times. Roberts has gotten plenty of respect this season. The power-hitting catcher has been walked 21 times in 64 plate appearances.
All but one player on the Lady Bulldogs roster played in the game.
“We’ve got 13 girls and I believe in all 13 of them,” Smith said. “They all can do the job. We can move them around anywhere.”
