VALDOSTA, Ga. — Mike Bennett and Buddy Walker wanted to create a club for owners and connoisseurs of classic cars in 1984.
They founded the South Georgia Classic Car Club.
For nearly a decade, the club’s premier event has become the Super Cruise-In.
The 10th Annual Super Cruise-In is scheduled for Saturday at the Five Points Shopping Center, according to information provided by the South Georgia Classic Car Club.
The cruise-in is open to any individual with an antique, classic or special-interest car, truck or motorcycle.
Past Cruise-Ins have attracted hundreds of classic cars coming from South Georgia and North Florida cities and towns such as Macon, Warner Robins, Americus, Cordele, Tifton, Albany, Bainbridge, Cairo, Thomasville, Waycross, Valdosta, Tallahassee, Moultrie, Monticello and Live Oak, Fla.
About 150 vehicles are expected to be on display this year. Last year, 149 vehicles registered for the Cruise-In.
There is no entry/registration fee, though car owners and visitors may make a donation to Hospice of South Georgia, the regional food bank.
Tenth Annual Super Cruise-In is scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, Five Points Shopping Center, 3200 N. Ashley St. Admission: Free. More information: Call Rick Hastings, (229) 251-0377; Logan Birdsong, (229) 251-8558; or visit www.sgccc.org.
