VALDOSTA, Ga. – A gun was found in the Valdosta City Schools Board of Education room following its Tuesday night meeting, according to Valdosta Police Department.
Police Chief Brian Childress said he received a phone call from School Superintendent Todd Cason saying that a gun had been found Tuesday night.
“There is zero evidence that anyone was going to harm anyone on the board. The fact that someone has a gun on them does not necessarily make it a crime. We are currently looking into who had the gun and will know more when we find out who the gun owner is,” said Childress.
“I personally know all of the members with the Valdosta chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference,” said Childress. “These are not violent people and I do not believe that any members of the SCLC brought a fire arm to the school board meeting.”
The gun was a small .32 caliber and is currently in possession of the police department.
