MOULTRIE, Ga. — The son of a former Moultrian will be in town next month trying to reconnect with his roots.

Craig Murphy contacted The Moultrie Observer recently in hopes of being able to find members of his father’s family still living in the area.

Murphy’s father, Ellis Leon Murphy, was born in 1930 and raised in Moultrie.

“He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1948 and met my mother in England,” Murphy said in an email. “When he retired in 1969 he settled in England.

“When he died in 1979, I spent six weeks in Moultrie with his brother, Wilburn Murphy, who was clerk of Superior Court in Moultrie,” he said. “When he died a few years later, unfortunately we lost contact over time with our family in Moultrie. My father was the youngest of seven children.”

Murphy said he, his wife and son would be in Moultrie June 23 for three nights to visit some of the sites he remembers from that time in 1979.

If any member of Murphy’s family would like to reconnect with him, please contact The Observer’s newsroom manager, Kevin Hall, at kevin.hall@gaflnews.com or (229) 985-4545, and that information will be followed to him.
