MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Renovations and upgrades to facilities throughout the Baldwin County school system are one step closer to getting started after the local school board approved a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $3.1 million as handed down from Parrish Construction Group.
Representatives from Parrish Construction, based out of Perry, delivered a packet to the school board Monday evening at a called meeting that gave a breakdown of bids and maximum price estimates for the projects.
Parrish received 50 bids for the 18 bid packages, according to company representatives.
The renovation projects will be paid for from the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) that voters approved last November.
“Security was at the top of our list when we went out to talk to our stakeholders,” said Baldwin County School Superintendent Dr. Noris Price.
The security renovations include securing vestibules for each school, making it difficult for outsiders to gain access without the knowledge of school personnel in the main office.
The representatives from Parrish Construction said that not all vestibule work will be complete by the start of next school year, but that they often handle this kind of work while school is in session. The more labor-intensive vestibules will be prioritized during the summer, so as to cut down on construction interference when school begins.
The football stadium will also undergo some renovations, as aluminum bleacher seats will be added to the home side of the stands and the track will be resurfaced. A timeline for those projects is not yet available, but Price said the goal is to start the projects in June.
