The Georgia Dugout Club will once again put on the Georgia Underclassman Top 100 Showcase throughout the state this month.

Tryouts for the underclassman event are scheduled for Thursday at Valdosta State. Sign-ups begin at 8 a.m. with the tryout starting at 9 a.m. If players need to leave after the evaluations in order to go to any tournaments/commitments they may have already made arrangements for, they can and miss the scrimmage. Refer to the Georgia Dugout Club website for all information: www.gdcbaseball.org.

The underclassmen top 100 is one of the most popular high school baseball showcase events in the country, attracting more than 100 college and pro scouts on an annual basis.

Since 2003, the Georgia Underclassman has had hundreds of high school rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders participate and move on to play college or professional baseball. The most notable top 100 alumni includes 2008’s MLB No.1 draft pick Timothy Beckham (Griffin High), 2010’s National League Rookie of the Year Buster Posey (Lee County High), the 2013 No. 5 pick Clint Frazier (Loganville High) and Austin Meadows, the No. 9 pick (Grayson High).

The Georgia Underclassman Scout Committee, made up of pro scouts and college coaches, travel the state to evaluate players participating in a pro-style workout at different regional sites. From the 12 regional sites, 100 upcoming seniors along with 60 upcoming juniors and sophomores will be chosen to participate in a final event at Georgia’s Gwinnett College later this month.

All players that attend a regional site are graded by the scout committee and data is posted on the player’s individual player profile. The player profiles store valuable information including contact information, academic information/transcript, highlight video and season-by-season statistics that each player can then email out to college coaches around the state with the Georgia underclassman recruiting system. This helps each player participating in the Georgia underclassman event in the recruiting process and gives them a tool to utilize year round while contacting the colleges they have interest in attending.
