Valdosta’s Ungar wins South Georgia Seniors Blitz

Valdosta’s John Ungar carted home first place in the South Georgia Seniors Blitz conducted by South Georgia Golf Promotions at the Golf Club of South Georgia in Tifton.
Playing in the same group with David Beals of Thomasville, Ungar took a one-point lead after nine holes. On the back side, Ungar faltered with a double bogey on No. 12 to Beals’ par. Ungar regrouped with pars on holes 13 and 15 while Beals posted a double bogey on 15 and could not overtake Ungar, finishing second.

Rounding out the top four prize places were Valdosta’s Jack Coffey in third and Thomasville’s Richard Vann fourth. It still was a good day for Beals, as he won his fourth consecutive Cheddars closest-to-the-pin contest.
The Seniors will be traveling to Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Club at Lake Blackshear Resort in Cordele for the July Blitz on July 13.
Openings are available for the First Tee Charity Classic June 25 or June 26 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Club. Format is a four-man scramble. Entry- fee is $400 per team. Deadline is June 18.
