THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The music scales at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium are about to tilt heavily to the gospel side.
The Golden Valley Crusaders and The Plath Family Band, the opening act, are set to perform Saturday at 7:30 p.m. as part of the “Another Night of Bluegrass Series” put together by Len Robinson of WTUF-106.3 FM.
“Bluegrass and gospel are intertwined,” Robinson said. “Even the contemporary bluegrass groups are always going to play two or three gospel songs in a set. This will be an all-gospel concert.”
The Golden Valley Crusaders hail from Golden Valley, North Carolina. The original members retired three years ago and the Golden Valley Ramblers were formed. By popular demand, the Ramblers took up the Golden Valley Crusaders mantel in October 2014 and have maintained that name since.
Their sound and their mission — to spread the gospel — remains true to the first group of Crusaders.
“It’s been eight or 10 years since we’ve had them,” Robinson said. “(Angela Epley) is a strong lead (singer). They sing old-time gospel.”
The Plath Family Band, based in Cairo, is led by Barry and Kim Plath. Their nine children perform with them and they specialize in four-part harmony.
Kim Plath was a music major at Florida State University. She has taught the children to play a wide variety of instruments.
“I’m sure those little ones are going to steal the show,” Robinson said.
The Plaths’ youngest child is three years old and can strum a mandolin, tap her toes and sing along with the group.
Tickets for Saturday’s show cost $10 and will be available toiday at the Thomasville Visitors Center at 144 E. Jackson St. They can also be purchased at the door before the show.
