Incident occurring at Three Oaks

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.
Valdosta Chief of Police Brian Childress said police officer Randall Hancock called for assistance when he responded to a non-emergency call at Three Oaks Apartments early Friday saying he had been shot. Childress said the officer was shot multiple times and was taken to South Georgia Medical Center, he underwent surgery. The officer is now recovering and is in stable condition. The shooter was described as an Asian male. The shooter was also shot in the exchange and is in stable condition, Childress said.

Authorities will be releasing a statement regarding this morning’s shooting incident in the next few minutes. Information will be posted as soon as provided.
UPDATE 10:55 a.m.:
Authorities confirmed the shooting incident at Three Oaks Apartments involved a Valdosta police officer adding, the officer “will be fine.” The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will be addressing the media soon.

Southern District Attorney David Miller has arrived at scene.
An ambulance just arrived arrive on scene. No sirens. No flashing lights.
UPDATE 9:55 a.m.:
The City of Valdosta has said that a Valdosta Police Department officer was dispatched on Friday, July 8, at 7:57a.m, for a damage to property call, to Three Oaks Apartments.
Upon arrival, VPD officer encountered a male in the parking lot and gun shots were exchanged, according to the City.

Authorities are asking apartment residents to open vehicle trunks as they leave apartment complex.
VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Daily Times is on the scene near Three Oaks Apartments.
The Valdosta Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol are investigating an incident at the apartment complex off North Oak Street Ext. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and representatives of the Georgia Southern District attorneys office have arrived. GBI Crime Scene van has arrived.
A GSP officer said it is a Valdosta Police Department case.
