Chain Baseball to hold August tryouts

TIFTON, Ga. — Chain Baseball has announced their youth tryout dates will be Aug. 13-14 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Chain will have multiple teams in each age groups: 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U and 14U. Whatever age the player will be on May 1, 2017 is the age group he will play this year. The cost of tryouts is $40 per player. Tryouts for 9-11 will be Aug. 13, beginning at 10 a.m. for 9U, with 10U at noon and 11U at 2 p.m. On Aug. 14, 12U will be at 1 p.m., 13U at 3 and 14U at 5. Runway Show to benefit crisis center

DALTON, Ga. — Tickets for the inaugural Runway Show to benefit the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center in Dalton are now on sale. The event is Saturday, Aug. 27. The event is at Rock Bridge Community Church’s Stage 123 and is a fundraising effort for the center. Tickets for the show only are $15 per person. VIP tickets are available at $25 per person. Moultrie dealership to host televised discussion on farm equipment

MOULTRIE, Ga. — U.S. Farm Report will air a roundtable discussion hosted at Lasseter Equipment in Moultrie for its special nationwide TV segment focused on used ag equipment. The program, titled “On the Road with Machinery Pete,” features John Deere dealers from around the country discussing trends in the agricultural equipment market with U.S. Farm Report hosts and Farm Journal’s used equipment expert, Greg Peterson. The “On the Road with Machinery Pete” episode featuring Lasseter Equipment airs Saturday and Sunday on several channels including: Albany’s WSWG, 5 a.m. Saturday; Tallahassee’s WCTV, 4:30 a.m. Sunday; RFD-TV 10 a.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday; and SiriusXM (audio only) 7 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.

 

Clearing animal shelters

 VALDOSTA , Ga.— Lowndes County officials hope to reach a population of zero again at the county animal shelter. Lowndes County will participate in a nationwide event called Clear the Shelters.  The program is sponsored by NBC and VIP Petcare. The event takes place July 23, according to county organizers. For the first time in the history of the Lowndes County Animal Shelter, all available dogs were either adopted or rescued in May. Officials said they hope Clear the Shelters will make it the second time in shelter history.  More information: www.cleartheshelters.com.

 

Milledgeville Police Department earns state recognition

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The Milledgeville City Council recognized members of the police department Tuesday for their recent recognition by the Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute. MPD was recently recognized with three Buckle Up America! Awards. Originally created by the National Highway Safety Administration, the Buckle Up, America! Awards have continued at the state level through the University of Georgia.  Buckle Up, America! Awards recognize individuals, agencies, community and civic groups who work to reduce injuries and prevent fatalities in Georgia through involvement with traffic safety, seat belt and child safety seat awareness initiatives.

 

White Springs hosts Soul Food Crab Fest

WHITE SPRINGS, Fla. – Local White Springs radio station, WJLN 88.7 The Source is hosting the White Springs Soul Food Crab Fest Saturday, July 16 at the Ogburn Ball Field, located behind the New Bethel AME Church. The festival will start at noon and last until 8 p.m. There will be live music, entertainment, raffle games and food including barbecue, seafood, smoothies, fruit, cakes, pies, gator gumbo, Caribbean food, boiled peanuts, hoagies and much more. Woman reports SSN scam

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — A Thomasville woman who gave her Social Security number to a person posing as IRS personnel soon realized she had been scammed and contacted police. The caller told the victim that if she did not pay $3,986, she would go to jail. A later call to the woman said she should meet someone “to pay off the warrant.” The victim told the person calling she was wise to the scam and hung up. The woman also notified her bank, Social Security and the IRS, where she was told the IRS does not call citizens, but corresponds by mail. The responding officer told the victim how to avoid unknown numbers calling her and how to protect her identity.
