MOULTRIE, GA. — A Colquitt County man escaped serious injury Friday morning when a bullet fired at his head traveled between his lips, taking out several of his teeth but leaving him otherwise unharmed.
Kevin Knipple, 25, told police that he was shot during a robbery attempt at his 257 Sheets Lane residence.
“He’s one of the luckiest human beings I’ve ever seen,” Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Inv. Chris Robinson said.
Knipple reported that he was in his front yard at about 12:45 a.m. Friday when two males came out of the woods and tried to rob him. One of them then shot him before they fled, he told police.
There was poor quality video footage of the incident at Knipple’s mobile home that sits at the end of a dead-end dirt road, Robinson said, but it would not be of any use in trying to identify the assailants.
Knipple believed that the gun used was a semi-automatic pistol, but Robinson was unable to find a spent shell casing in the yard.
“At this time there really are no leads to follow,” Robinson said.
Knipple was treated by emergency medical service technicians at the scene.
Colquitt Regional Medical Center had no record of him being admitted, a hospital spokeswoman said.
