New ordering option for Tift County football tickets

TIFTON, Ga. — Waiting in line is no fun. It does not matter if the wait is for a theme park ride, buying tickets to an event or in the grocery store. No one likes to wait.
Things are changing, though. With the rise of digital technology, many events have now become more convenient with the ability to buy tickets, instantly.
That technology has arrived locally and for one of the most popular attractions in town.
Fans can now buy tickets online for Tift County Blue Devil home football games and print them out. Not only that, they can actually choose their seats.
Tift County Schools Chief Technology and Information officer Jonathan Judy said it was natural, considering “the volume of ticketing we do” and their jump to Class AAAAAAA in athletics.
The idea for simplifying the process came out of a meeting with athletic director Rusty Smith, head football coach Ashley Anders and himself. They wanted to grow season ticket sales, he said. This gives them more options.
“Our idea is to offer fans some convenience,” Judy said.
Previously, the only way to purchase tickets in advance was either through season ticket packages or going to the high school. Now, as long as fans have access to a printer, they can buy tickets from anywhere and at any time, even while watching infomercials at 4 a.m. “No waiting in line,” he said.
Tift County is believed to be an area pioneer in the service. Judy was aware of some Atlanta area schools selling seats online, but none in south Georgia.
Tickets can be ordered through tift.booktix.com. Buyers select their game from a list of five — Cook, Valdosta, Parkview, Fitzgerald and Colquitt County — or from 2016 football season tickets. For individual games, after clicking on “view performances,” a screen shows the game time and opponent and has a clickable button to purchase tickets.
The ticket screen first gives options of stadium sections: C, D, E and general admission on both sides of the field. Once clicked, C, D or E has a diagram of seats showing which seats are available. Blue circles are those reserved, red are those purchased and white (or blank) circles are available for purchase. Clicking on a white circle adds a checkmark and adds the ticket(s) to the online cart. Tickets can also be removed once selected. The general admission section, which is all of the visitors’ side and at the ends of home, does not have an option to pick seats.
There is a small fee attached to the online ticket sales, but Judy believes that having this option is important to the fanbase. The ticket site will not just help Tift County fans, but visitors, too.
Tift is expecting large crowds for several of their home games.
“Valdosta, Fitzgerald and Colquitt are big potential games,” he said. Buying online assures visiting fans of having a seat.
Currently, tickets are only available in paper form. Next year, he would like to be able to offer them digitally. For now, football is the only sport with online ticketing, but Judy and the school system are hopeful of expanding it further. Away from sports, he said events at the Performing Arts Center will also have tickets sold online.
The ticketing system is not useful for just last minute shoppers. “Now we can start the ticket initiative in the spring,” said Judy. As soon as the schedule is announced, those wanting to buy season tickets can go ahead and select their seats.
“People have always asked ‘when can I buy my tickets?’” he said.
Now they can immediately.
