MAYO – Dustin Hart spoke to the Mayo Rotary Club about his time with CentriKid Camp this summer at a meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Hart grew up in Mayo and is video communication student at Berry College in Georgia.
CentriKid is an overnight camp for 3rd-6th graders to experience the time of their lives and learn more about the message of Jesus Christ. Church groups bring kids to camp where they’ll take part in Bible study, recreation, track times, and worship.
According to Hart, the goals of the camp are to root everything in scripture, make heroes of the church, make the camp easy on the church and have the staffers be disciples of Christ.
Hart was the sound technician and produced videos of the camp. He filmed the activities of the campers and created daily and weekly video recaps for each camp.
During the summer, his team traveled to Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas, South Carolina and Arkansas.
Hart said the team traveled in two semi trucks, two 15 passenger vans and a mini van.
“It’s a really stressful job, but when you see the outcome of it, it’s amazing,” Hart said.
He added that his group has over 300 salvations throughout the summer.
