Suwannee cross country teams win home race

The Suwannee boys team runs together at about the one mile mark of the 3.2-mile race.

LIVE OAK — The Suwannee High School cross country teams won their first home race of the season on Thursday, Sept. 8 at Heritage Park.

The SHS girls team placed seven runners in the top 10 to defeat Bradford and Branford.

Alexis Thompson placed first overall with a time of 23:39. Courtney Sasso finished second. Sierra Cyprian came in fourth. Vicry Cruz was fifth. Kelsey Middleton placed seventh. Emelia Rodriguez finished ninth and Zoey Layton finished 10th.

Taylor May Jones had the best time for Branford followed by Carmilla Derringer. 

The Suwannee boys team defeated Bradford by taking the top three spots in the race.

Micah Hilliard placed first with a time of 18:08 with Tim Choe less than a step behind him for second place.

Other top finishers for Suwannee were: Ricardo Cruz, third; Chase Smith, seventh; and Joey Collazo, eighth. 

The team’s next race is Saturday, Sept. 17 at Alligator Lake Park in Lake City.
