TIFTON, Ga. — Tiftarea Academy’s Lady Panthers will finally get a chance to show their skills in the GISA state softball tournament Saturday.

Head coach Joe Barkman announced that they will play Trinity Christian of Dublin at 1 p.m. in Chula.

There will be at least two games played. The second is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the third, if necessary, will be at 5 p.m.

As Region 3 champs, Tiftarea had a bye in the first round. Trinity Christian swept Loganville Christian Tuesday in their first round games. The visitor in the series, Trinity won 3-0 and 4-2, according to Loganville’s GameChanger account.

Madison Williams was deadly in the leadoff spot in both games. Both her hits in the first game came as the first batter in the inning and she scored twice. Two of her three hits in the second game came the same route and she had another run.

Loganville trailed for the entirety of the opener, but had a 2-0 lead in the return game before Trinity struck for three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Trinity employed two pitchers in the series. Gracie Thompson surrendered just a pair of hits in the first contest. Jordan Mackey went five in the second before Thompson came back in to finish it out. Like Tiftarea’s Sara-Kate Lupo, Thompson is young, too. She is a sophomore and was named All-State in 2015, as was Williams.

Trinity were the state runners-up a year ago and were the team that knocked Tiftarea out of the state tournament in 2014.

If Tiftarea can avenge the loss, they advance to the semifinals, where they will meet another Trinity Christian (of Sharpsburg) or John Milledge Academy. Those games would take place Tuesday. The finals are Oct. 15 at Valdosta State.
