MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The Georgia Military College Bulldogs (6-1) have been on a tear for the past month and a half and hope to continue that trend on Saturday when the Warriors of Jireh Prep (3-2) come to Milledgeville.

The Dogs moved up to No. 12 in this week’s NJCAA poll and have been rolling on both sides of the ball the last six weeks, scoring almost 54 points per game and only allowing opponents to score an average of nine.

Jireh Prep comes to Davenport Field from Matthews, N.C. having lost to the Naval Academy junior varsity 22-19 last week. The Warriors and GMC met in a game last season that concluded with a victory in favor of the Bulldogs.

Head coach Bert Williams said the GMC defense can expect a similar spread strategy to what they have seen the past two weeks against ASA College-Miami and Hocking.

“They’re going to give you two different looks,” Williams said. “They’re going to give you a two-back power look and then they’re going to get to a four-wide, whether they’re doubles or four-wide trips, and try to fling it around. We feel like they’re probably going to try to spread out and create some air to try and run the ball that way to let some of their skill guys get the ball in space and make something happen.”

Williams added that he doesn’t expect to see Jireh line up and run straight at the Bulldogs, as that would be playing into the home team’s strength.

On the other side of the ball, the big guys on the GMC offensive line can expect to see a lot of pressure from the visiting defense.

“They’ve shown a desire to pressure out there,” said Williams. “They did that a good bit to us last year. We have to make sure we do a good job of picking up a lot of different types of pressures from various looks, so they’re going to try to be disruptive and confuse us a bit up front. Hopefully we’ll be able to handle that.”

Last week against Hocking was the third instance this season the Bulldogs have put up more than 60 points in a game due to both a disciplined offense and a defense that has given that offense great starting field position on multiple occasions. Major Belamy has given the offense a dynamic option on the outside and can also be called upon to run the ball to give opponents a different look. The flex player leads the team in receptions, is second in receiving yards, and is difficult to get on the ground every time he has the ball in his hands.

“I think the guys have done well on offense,” Williams said. “We’ve certainly been very productive. I think our guys have definitely shown the ability to get better week after week, and that’s been very important.”

The No. 12-ranked GMC Bulldogs and Jireh Prep Warriors will kick off from Davenport Field Saturday at 2 p.m.
