DALTON, Ga. — No one likes standing in line, and Whitfield County Tax Commissioner Danny Sane says he thinks he’s found a way to help people who are visiting his offices to renew their tags or pay their taxes reduce their odds of having to wait in line.

He’s installed cameras in the offices, and simply by going to the tax commissioner’s website, whitfieldcountytax.com, or going to the Whitfield County website, www.whitfieldcountyga.com, and clicking on the tax commissioner’s link, residents can see just what is going on in both the tags office and the tax office, including whether there are any lines for service and how long they are.

“We are constantly dealing with people who are on deadlines for paying their taxes and for renewing their tags,” Sane said. “So I thought it would be a good idea if people could just use their smartphones to look up the tax commissioner’s office and check out the live online cameras to see if anyone is in line. That way they could see if they could just zip into the courthouse and buy their tag without standing in line.”

Sane says the office is always staffed at lunchtime, when many people are free to take care of their taxes.

“But I thought it would be a good idea if they check and see if there’s a line and say, ‘Well, I’ll try tomorrow,’” he said.
