JACKSONVILLE — The Suwannee girls soccer team lost 4-1 to Paxon on Thursday.
Sophomore captain Baylor Burch netted the only goal for Suwannee. She scored with 20:13 remaining in the second half to cut the Paxon lead to 2-1.
After Burch’s goal, there was continued pressure back and forth with some nice defense by Suwannee, including a defensive kick save on an empty net by sophomore Jordan Esco.
There was a big rush by Paxon’s offense in front of the Suwannee net with 11:36 left, resulting in five repeated shots on net. The final shot finally got through, giving Paxon a 3-1 edge. PHS added its final score with 2:36 left in the game.
SHS goalie Nayleen Pecina stopped 14 shots on net. She faced pressure most of the game, making several diving saves.
The Lady Golden Eagles scored one goal in the first half. They had a great chance to go ahead 2-0, but freshman defender Bethany Mabey made a stop in front of an empty net that kept the score at 1-0 going into halftime.
The Lady Dogs travel to Gainesville next Thursday for games against Buchholz.
