One killed, one injured in accident near ABAC

TIFTON, Ga.- Georgia State Patrol has confirmed one fatality and one injury resulting from a wreck at approximately 10:30 p.m. Nov. 20 on Moore Highway in front of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
According to GSP, the accident was a single vehicle accident involving a Nissan 350Z traveling north on Moore Highway. Preliminary analysis showed that the vehicle struck the curb and the driver lost control, leaving the road and striking a tree. The vehicle struck the tree on the passenger side, then rotated around the tree and split in two, authorities said. The passenger, Macy Mathis, 16, of Tifton, was partially ejected from the vehicle, according to reports. It was confirmed by the authorities that she was wearing a seatbelt, and she was stabilized at Tift Regional Medical Center and flown to Macon. The driver, Adam Sattler, 18, of Tifton, was pronounced deceased, officials said. According to GSP, there was no alcohol or drugs involved.
It appears that the main factors leading to the accident were speed and driving in a reckless manner, authorities said. The posted speed limit on the road is 35 miles per hour, but according to reports the vehicles must have been traveling at a higher speed to have caused the type of damage that occurred.
