TIFTON- A man from McDonough was arrested and charged with fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance after he reportedly attempted to get a fake prescription filled at four Tifton pharmacies, authorities said.

Daverion Guilford, 19, of McDonough was arrested Nov. 15 at CVS Pharmacy on 8th Street after pharmacists from that location, Walgreens on Love Avenue, CVS Pharmacy on 20th Street and the pharmacy inside Walmart Neighborhood Market on Tift Avenue identified him as the individual who attempted to get the fraudulent prescription filled.

Guilford allegedly made his first attempt at the 8th Street CVS at approximately 7 p.m. by dropping off a prescription for promethazine with codene. The pharmacist at 8th Street CVS reportedly told police he told Guilford that it would take 15 minutes to fill the prescription, at which time the suspect left. The pharmacist called police and informed them about the possibly fraudulent prescription.

According to the police reports, Guilford then went to Walgreens and attempted to fill the same prescription at approximately 7:10 p.m. The pharmacist at Walgreens informed police that the prescription raised several red flags; the phone number for the doctor’s office where the prescription was supposed to have originated did not connect to a doctor’s office when she called, and she said that Guilford couldn’t remember the name of the person the prescription was made out to when he returned to get the medication. Guilford then allegedly moved on to the 20th Street CVS location at 7:29 p.m. and ended at the Walmart Pharmacy at 7:34 p.m., where he was told the prescription would not be filled. Guilford allegedly left the scene and returned to the 8th Street CVS, where he was detained by police.
