Five months ago, the 406 had a quiet opening. Russell Cockburn, co-owner of 406, said they just opened the door with little notice. He wanted to make sure they had all the kinks worked out before a grand opening.
Business started to grow and the 406 teamed up with the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce to officially welcome the restaurant to Live Oak.
“We put off a grand opening for a long time because we didn’t want to do it until we were ready,” Cockburn said. “We did it today because now we’re ready.”
Jimmy Norris, executive director for the chamber, said the ribbon cutting signifies the beginning of a new chapter. The 406 has been open for months, so they wanted to be sure they were up on their feet before doing a ribbon cutting, he said.
“But it’s tradition to cut the ribbon like cracking a bottle of champagne on the side of a ship,” Norris said.
Kim Law, chamber member, said the ribbon cutting event is an announcement that they are open and running and doing business.

“It’s an opportunity for them to market themselves to the public and say, ‘We are official,’” Law said. “It shows confidence.”
The 406 on Duval is open from 11 a.m. to midnight Tuesday through Saturday.
