The victim reported seeing a black male dressed in dark clothing getting out of the victim’s vehicle, the report states. The victim told police that more than $300 and a Glock firearm were stolen from the vehicle.

An LOPD officer began to search the area and noticed Rekem, unaware of the officer’s presence, trying to get into two other vehicles in the area, according to the report.

The officer approached Rekem to apprehend him. Rekem then fled and the officer followed on foot.

The chase continued out of Tera Trace, across 11th Street and onto Ontario Avenue before Rekem turned west and across the property of Shands of Live Oak, the report states.

Rekem was captured by the officer and placed under arrest. The stolen property was recovered from Rekem, who was later taken to Suwannee County Jail.

After conducting interviews with Rekem, police learned he had committed multiple burglaries in Live Oak over the course of the last two months, the report states.

Investigation into this admission is still ongoing and new charges are expected to be put forward by LOPD soon, according to the release.
