VALDOSTA — More than 100 guests were displaced Thursday morning after a hotel fire, according to the Valdosta Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 3:03 a.m. Thursday to a structure fire at the La Quinta Inn, 1800 Clubhouse Drive, Assistant VFD Fire Chief Brian Boutwell said.

A La Quinta Inn representative reported 117 of its 121 rooms were occupied, Boutwell said. He did not know when occupants would be allowed to return.

He said there was “one minor firefighter injury. He was treated and released.”

No civilian injuries were reported, he said.

A dog was also “rescued from the first floor of the hotel,” Boutwell said, adding the dog “was happy to see us” and “is fine.”

Boutwell said “first arriving crews noticed heavy smoke” when they arrived, and additional crews were called to the scene.

The exact amount of damage and the fire’s cause are “still under investigation,” Boutwell said.
