Passion of NASCAR
Today is 26-Dec-2016. I had originally penned this letter to your organization on 22-Nov-2016 as follows:
It’s Tuesday morning, made my usual cup of coffee, retrieved my paper from the driveway and cannot wait to jet straight to the Sports section to view a color photo and story of #48 Jimmie Johnson who became the National Association of Stock Car Auto racing’s (NASCAR) newest member of the elite seven (7) title club of which only two other’s belong (Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr.)
I’m getting there and…..holy smokes! There’s a Lowndes High School, VSU basketball, Atlanta Falcon, and a Hall of Fame story on the front page. Nowhere on any page of this supposedly great Valdosta Daily Times Sport’s Section was made mention of one of the greatest feats of many sport’s combined.
Was it because it was Tuesday and it was classified as “old news” as the Times does not publish home delivery on Monday? Was it because your Sport’s Editor’s doesn’t consider NASCAR a competitive sport? Your readership deserves an answer. All who know me as a #24 Jeff Gordon fan are probably surprised that I am writing this, but I penned it as a devoted NASCAR fan just looking for a level playing field when it comes to sports reporting. I’m not really surprised though as this is the way it always is with your sports editor’s season after season.
Maybe the editor’s should attend a NASCAR race sometime and then they will know the passion every fan has about their driver and NASCAR. Congratulations to the #48 team and driver Jimmie Johnson!
