TIFTON — Pete Pyrzenski will be appointed as the new Tifton city manager at the Jan. 9 meeting of the City Council.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Pyrzenski, who has been the project manager at ESG since April 2016, has previously served as city manager for Commerce and Waycross.
The city manager position has been vacant since July 2016, when Larry Riner resigned. The decision to appoint Pyrzenski came after reviewing more than 60 applications for the job.
The council will also be discussing approving the mutual aid agreement for fire services with Tift County Fire and Rescue.
This same agreement will be discussed at the Tift County Board of Commissioners meeting, which will take place on the same evening.
The mutual aid agreement, the language of which was finalized after input from both City Fire Chief Mike Coleman and County Fire Chief Joey Fowler, allows for personnel from either the city or the county fire departments to provide “emergency care and intervention when either life or property is threatened,” regardless of whose jurisdiction the emergency is in, “provided notice of said emergency has been provided to the other jurisdiction.”
Several board members will be sworn in by the council.
Hal Baxley will be sworn in for the Downtown Development Authority Board, Ray Cross will join the Tifton-Tift County Tourism Board and the Tifton Planning and Zoning Board will be joined by Peter Crowley.
Jafaria Robinson will be appointed to the Tifton Housing Authority Board by Mayor Julie Smith as well.
Discussions about a request from the Tift County Recreation Department about transferring property, adding a local vendor preference to the city purchasing policy and reinstituting an employee education/training incentive plan will resume after being tabled at the last council meeting.
Under new business, resolutions providing alcohol beverage licenses for several businesses will be discussed.
An ordinance approving a rezoning application made by Brown Dog Development on West 6th Street and setting qualifying fees for the Nov. 7 election will also be discussed.
The city council will also have an executive session after the meeting to discuss personnel, legal and/or real estate matters.
