VALDOSTA — Valdosta police warn businesses and residents to beware callers posing as power company representatives threatening to cut electric service.

Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress said at least four people/businesses have been targeted by the calls Tuesday. The scam has affected both businesses and residents in the Valdosta area.

The caller says power is about to be cut. In some cases, the caller leaves a message and a return number which Childress said is (844) 350-6902.

Do not give the caller any information; do not return calls from the listed number, the police chief said.

If a person receives a call from a person claiming to be a Georgia Power representative or any other utility company, call a legitimate phone for the utility.

“They’re hitting everything,” Childress said. “Do not give them anything. It is a scam.”
