JASPER — Coaches and players from the 1992 Hamilton County High School basketball team reunited on Saturday at the HCHS gym to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their state championship.
Rex Mitchell, Superintendent of Schools for Hamilton County, was head coach in 1992 when Hamilton won its only state title in basketball.

Eleven of the 13 players from the team came together on Saturday, along with Mitchell and assistant coach Chris Willis. The team’s other coach, Meine Busack, passed away in 2014.
Mitchell said it was the first time most of the team had been together since 1992. He still remembers the final moments of the state championship game when JoJo Williams hit the game-winning 3-pointer
“We were tied with 30 seconds to go,” Mitchell said. “We set up a play to go to the basket, but we threw the ball back out to our point guard. I thought we’re not even going to get a shot off. [Williams] had not been shooting well. He picked a good time to make one.”
There was a reception at 5 p.m. for the team and a celebration during halftime of Saturday’s game against Madison County.
