VALDOSTA — Every tax season, people in green Statue of Liberty costumes dance or sing beside Bemiss Road for Liberty Tax Services.
Zachary Harhausen has played his guitar and sung as a dancing Liberty statue for three years.
Harhausen said it started with his mother asking a simple question: “Do you want to dance on the side of the road?”
Jasmine Heard has danced for Liberty Tax for two years.
Heard dances enthusiastically with headphones in her ears. She said this is her first job.
Harhausen said he started off dancing to music in his headphones.
One day, Harhausen brought his guitar after his headphones broke and has stuck with guitar since.
Stephen Terrio, an office manager for Liberty Tax, said he began as a dancer.
“Basically, they got us on a computer and showed us a video of people dancing,” Terrio said of the interview process.
“I danced the first year or so. Then, I went to tax school,” Terrio said.
Harhausen said he only works for four months as a dancing statue. He also works in a shoe store and does odd jobs.
Harhausen said he has been a guitarist for 10 years.
“You get to interact with people a lot more than when you’re on stage,” Harhausen said. “I’ve found it to be the greatest job ever.”
Liberty Tax offers tax preparation services. The office is located at 2139-C Bemiss Road.
