VALDOSTA, Ga. — A Lowndes County jury awarded $10 million to a doctor who claimed he was injured while working at South Georgia Medical Center.
A jury ruled in favor of Dr. Mark Corbitt Wednesday awarding him $10 million in the civil suit filed January 2011.
Corbitt fell while using a stool in the operating room at SGMC and was injured Jan. 25, 2010, according to court records. The injury resulted in brain damage causing Corbitt to become epileptic and to lose his license to practice medicine, said defense attorney Robert Howell.
Corbitt claimed the stool’s wheels were unsafe for its environment and that SGMC had received previous complaints about the stool.
Attorneys Howell, Greg Voyles and Charlie Peeler represented Corbitt during the trial against the Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County doing business as South Georgia Medical Center. Additional details will be provided in a follow up report.
