Hoot’s Wisdom Nuggets

VALDOSTA — Hoot Gibson knows selling.

He worked for decades as a real estate salesman and broker.

He has boiled down his knowledge into a book called “Hoot’s Wisdom Nuggets to Help You Become a Supersalesman.”

“I wrote the book because I felt like I have a lot of knowledge and experience in selling and life in general,” Gibson said. “I wanted to leave something behind to help others achieve their maximum potential.”

He said he’s also never seen a book, video or seminar as an all-encompassing source on selling.

“Therefore, I decided to write a one-source ‘how to’ book that could be used as a manual or guide covering every aspect of selling,” Gibson said. “It is more than how to sell, it tells how to be the best of the best.”

Gibson said the book should prove a help to anyone looking for a career in sales, or for anyone looking to be successful in their chosen field.

The book came into being through the encouragement of Dave Curry, who was a No. 1 salesman for Zig Ziglar for 10 years, Gibson said. Ziglar was a motivational speaker.

Gibson attends a Florida church with Curry.

Gibson “told him I was in the process of writing a book on selling and he asked if he could read the manuscript,” he said. “He said it would be very helpful to anyone who read it whether they were in or out of sales. The email was so upbeat and encouraging that I asked if he would allow me to print it on the back cover of my book, and he graciously granted me permission.”

The book allows Gibson something to leave behind, a reflection of his career. He said the book is for people who want to be helped.

“It is not a book on just how to be a good salesman; it is how to be the best of the best,” he said.

“Surprisingly, my readers will discover, if done correctly, it will take no more effort to become a Super Salesman and perhaps even less.

“Seriously, I had no thought of profit when I wrote the book. I wanted it to be my legacy.”

The book is divided into chapters, or numbered “Wisdom Nuggets.”

The chapters range from “Be Reliable” to “A Short Lesson on Money.” In between are 50 “Wisdom Nuggets” including “The Blabber Mouth,” “A Lesson in Humility,” “Above the Competition,” “Extrovert vs. Introvert,” “Promote Yourself,” “Think Before You Answer,” “The Bearer of Bad News,” “Be Likable,” “Agree with Your Customer,” “Face Your Fears,” “Looks Can Be Deceiving,” “Prioritize Your Day,” “They Are Not Bird Dog,” “You Earned It, So Keep It,” “Two Nuggets in One,” etc.

Gibson also includes chapters on his life, explaining how he became a salesman based in Valdosta.

He also shares how he is named for Hoot Gibson, the famed cowboy star; however, for the star, “Hoot” was a nickname; for the sales author, Hoot is his given name.

Gibson plans to share more insights in a second book. He’s already working on the next volume and plans to title it, “Hoot’s Wisdom Nuggets for Living.”
