BHS softball run-rules Lafayette

MacKenzie Frye struck out 12 and hit a home run to help Branford win its regular-season opener on Tuesday against Lafayette. 

BRANFORD — An eight-run third inning propelled the Branford High softball team to an 11-1 victory against Lafayette on Tuesday.

MacKenzie Frye hit a home run in the fifth inning to give BHS a 10-run lead and end the game by mercy rule. Frye, who is also Branford’s best pitcher, struck out 12 of the 20 hitters she faced.

Brittany Frye went 3 for 3 and scored three runs. Kayley Walker was 2 for 2 with four RBI. 

Cameron Cassube had two hits, including a triple. She drove in two runs.

Branford plays again on Friday, hosting Oak Hall at 6 p.m.
