VALDOSTA – Students and faculty at Valdosta State University are mobilizing against Georgia House Bill 280, which would force all public higher educational institutions in the state to allow guns on college campuses, according to a press release.

Similar legislation proposed last year was vetoed by Gov. Nathan Deal.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, March 9, the VSU community will have the opportunity to learn more about the need for gun violence prevention through a screening of “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and NRA,” the latest feature-length documentary from Brave New Films.

The screening is scheduled for Room 1061 of Nevins Hall on campus.

“Making a Killing” is a “powerful indictment of gun-funded politics like those driving GA HB 280; (it) draws a direct line from the tragedies in the headlines to the pockets of those in the gun industry and the NRA,” according to the press release.

Since its premiere, “Making a Killing” has been screened more than a thousand times from the halls of Congress to college campuses, church basements and individual living rooms, according to organizers.
