VALDOSTA — The Eighth Annual Police Reunion is scheduled for early next month.

The idea of the reunion is to honor retired law-enforcement officers as well as give them an opportunity for a day of fellowship, said Ricky Plair, organizer of the event. It gives them a chance to see old friends, discuss old cases and remember times past.

Plair first worked as a Valdosta Police Department dispatcher before dispatching with the 911 Center and Valdosta State University.

The reunion is for retired law-enforcement officers from the VPD, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Valdosta State University and other area agencies, Plair said.

Organizers will provide Kentucky Fried Chicken this year, Plair said. He asks participants to bring a covered dish, such as baked beans, cole slaw, chips and desserts.

Organizers request officers reserve participation in advance to ensure enough food is available.

Traditionally, dozens of retired law-enforcement officers attend, Plair said.

The law-enforcement reunion is scheduled to start 10 a.m., April 1, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 3565 Bemiss Road. More information, call Ricky Plair, (229) 630-0966.
