VALDOSTA — Priceless Beauty Supply is a hair-care product store that came about as a result of owner Glenn Stegall’s mother losing her job.

His grandmother had recently passed away and his mother had to take a week off from work, Stegall said. His mother’s employer thought she had taken too much time off and changed her from a salaried employee to an hourly employee and she ended up losing her job.

Stegall took this as an opportunity to fulfill his mother’s dream: To own a hair-care product store.

She’d had the dream at least since Stegall was a kid, he said. He remembers his mother selling hair products out of a shed in the back yard part time while she worked at a factory full time.

To fulfill her dream and give her a job, he opened his first store in Hazlehurst in August 2015. It was a small store — about 1,500 square feet.

The store did well enough and Stegall’s innate entrepreneurial spirit kicked in. He said he’s had the spirit since he was a child when he started a lawn-care service at the age of 6.

Since he was young he had the philosophy: “If it works, build on it.”

So, that is what Stegall did.

“If I can make it work in a small town, I can expand,” Stegall said.

Eighteen months later, Priceless Beauty Supply has five stores in five different cities including Hazlehurst, Douglas, Vidalia, Moultrie and Valdosta. The Moultrie store is under the name Hollywood Beauty Store.

Aside from the Valdosta location, all of the other stores are only a little bigger than the original store in Hazlehurst. The Valdosta store is about 8,500 square feet.

“Originally we were going to focus on smaller stores,” Stegall said. “I decided to open a larger store to see how that would work.”

Stegall had worked in Valdosta in the past and thought the city a good place for a store. He found the economy to be healthy and the college to be a great resource for his business.

“I felt like the economy is really strong,” he said.

He plans to use the college to help his stores stay on top of the most recent trends, he said.

Stegall’s aim for the company is to “provide the best and friendliest customer service in town,” he said. He wants to help his customers and make them feel valued.

“I want my customers to be treated like my mom or my sister,” he said.

To help do this, Stegall brought on Brandy Davis as his assistant manager. Davis has more than 10 years of experience in cosmetology and hair-care products, he said. He didn’t want to bring someone into the business who wouldn’t be able to help his customers.

“We want to make sure our customers are getting the best, most accurate advice,” he said.

Stegall also plans to connect with local salons to create a network, he said. He would refer customers to other stores if he can’t fill the customers’ needs.

Valdosta is not the end of the road for Stegall; he plans to continue expanding his business into new cities.

“I like that I create new jobs with every store,” he said.

And because Stegall prefers to connect with other local businesses, it allows other businesses to flourish and have a new way to reach new customers, he said.

“For each store I open, I’d like to help a few of the local ladies open their own stores,” he said.

Before he heads out to the next town, Stegall plans to use the larger space in Valdosta to expand what his stores typically offer.

He wants to increase his natural hair products, cosmetics such as makeup and jewelry.
