VALDOSTA – Valdosta High School recently held the annual Miss Valdosta High School Pageant.
The 2016 Miss Valdosta High School Mo Asebiomo, a student at Stanford University, crowned the 2017 Miss Valdosta High School, Chyna Bellamy, according to a school press release.
The first runner-up was Sara Beth Rountree and second runner-up was Darcy Farwell.
Fourteen students competed for the 2017 crown for Miss VHS.
Contestants began preparing for the competition in the fall semester by obtaining sponsors and doing community appearances in various schools in the district, as well as other community locations, to volunteer and promote the pageant.
Contestants completed an interview in front of a panel of four judges.
During the pageant, contestants competed in an on-stage introduction, spirit wear, evening gown, and talent.
Miss VHS receives a package of prizes and a $5,000 scholarship when she completes her public-relations duties for the school at the end of her reign, according to the press release.
The first runner-up receives a $1,000 scholarship and the second runner-up receives a $350 scholarship.
Scholarship money is donated by sponsors and pageant entry fees, according to the press release.
