Japanese artist visits VSU

VALDOSTA – Students received a lesson in the international language of art.
Valdosta State University recently welcomed Masayasu “Jack” Iizuka, a Japanese potter and ceramic artist, to its Department of Art Ceramics Studio for two days of on-campus demonstrations and discussions, according to a VSU press release.

Born in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, Iizuka is a master at the sgraffito technique, which involves the etching and carving of intricate designs into ceramic surfaces. He holds a master’s degree in ceramics from California State University and a bachelor’s degree in art from Loma Linda University.
He previously visited VSU in 2015.
VSU’s Department of Art and Japanese Language and Culture Program sponsored the special presentation for both the university community and the public, according to the press release.
