VALDOSTA — Authorities arrested two men in Lowndes County Saturday afternoon and charged them with the murder of their roommate, who was found dead in a Brooks County home Friday.
The two men — Jaime Lopez Martinez, 19, and Luis Felipe Mollinedo Lopez, 23 — were caught in the parking lot of the Pilot Truck Stop on Madison Highway, according to information released Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
They are charged with murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery, according to the GBI.
Authorities arrested a third person — 17-year-old Andres Mollinedo Lopez — whom the GBI said had driven down from Virginia to pick up the other two men.
Andres is charged with giving false information and hindering the apprehension of a fugitive, according to the GBI.
Law enforcement believes the murder suspects were trying to leave the state, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said. Martinez and Luis Lopez are in the Brooks County Jail, and Andres Lopez is in the Lowndes County Jail.
Martin Solis was discovered dead in his home at 1789 Dewberry Short Road in Brooks County Friday, according to a GBI report. His roommates — Jamie and Luis — were missing at the time his body was discovered.
GBI agents discovered the men had gotten into a fight and caused an “incident” at a Quitman business the night before Solis’ body was found.
Agents believed the men were hiding out in Lowndes; when authorities found them at the truck stop, they closed in, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said.
The investigation and apprehension involved multiple law-enforcement agencies, including the GBI, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the Quitman Police Department and the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office.
“It was a great cooperative effort between agencies and jurisdictions,” said Capt. Stryde Jones of the LCSO.
