VALDOSTA, Ga. — Gasoline prices in Valdosta continued their upward climb over the last week.

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the city Sunday was $2.30, up five cents from seven days earlier, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The lowest price reported in Valdosta Sunday was $2.18 at a West Hill Avenue retailer, while the highest was $2.69 at a North Patterson Street location, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.

Following a months-long trend, no retailer in Valdosta was offering gas under $2 a gallon, gasbuddy said.

Nationally, the average price of gasoline was $2.41, up two cents over the past week, while Georgia’s average of $2.29 was also two cents higher in the same period, the auto club said.

In Thursday market trading, the New York Mercantile Exchange and the London Metal Exchange were closed for a holiday. On Thursday, benchmark U.S. crude rose 7 cents to close at $53.18 per barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price international oils, added 3 cents to close at $55.89 per barrel in London. Markets were closed Friday in the U.S. for the Easter holiday.
