VALDOSTA —Two former South Georgia residents co-star in a web series called “202.”

Michael “Mykell” Barlow writes and develops each episode of the series he describes as a “dramedy.” Justin Patten directs and edits each episode. They mutually developed a production company called A Great Adventure Productions.

Both men are former actors with Theatre Guild Valdosta. They both had roles in the 2010 Guild production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Barlow played the title role.

Barlow moved to Los Angeles about five years ago. He won second place in a nationwide online singing contest.

He describes “202” as a show that “follows three roommates trying to figure out how to make their dreams come true all while struggling to pay rent.”

“Our hope is that the series would get bought to stream on an outlet, such as Hulu or Amazon, that would allow us to continue to create new episodes with the financial and physical support of a larger production team,” Barlow said. “Ultimately, I want to create more shows to give up-and-coming creatives opportunities to act, write, produce and direct for network television.”

Barlow said his original aspirations of a music career transformed through the years. He’s had acting opportunities.

“My music created opportunities for me to act and I got hooked,” he said.

He joined the Screen Actors Guild a few years ago. He’s performed in plays and TV series. He’s developing a feature film for production next year.

“I was in a couple episodes of ‘WestWorld.’ I was one of the naked androids,” Barlow said. “I have written a few webseries and short films as well.

“My all-time favorite experience is working on ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ and seeing Viola Davis perform up close and personal, even though the scene I was in was cut from the final edit. That’s Hollywood.”

He rarely has an opportunity to visit Valdosta, Barlow said.

“I visit during the Christmas holiday to say hey to friends and family still in the area,” he said. “I had so much fun becoming who I am in Valdosta and I hope to make the home team proud.”
