“Our investigation revealed the victim met Slater some years back and sometime after the meeting, Slater began extorting money from the victim by claiming she was going to have the victim arrested and other threats against him to get him to pay her money,” saidJamy Steinberg, special agent in charge of the Thomasville GBI regional office.

“She facilitated the contacts and receipt of monetary payments from the victim,” Steinberg added.

Louis Schofill, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division commander, said narcotics agents assisted the GBI with the investigation.

The victim turned over his phone to law enforcement, Schofill said.

“At that time, we had his cellphone and we received communication with the person extorting him,” Schofill said.

Money in an envelope was used for a staged pickup on South Pinetree Boulevard.

According to Steinberg, Slater showed up to pick up the money and was arrested. Slater arrived at the staged pickup with two juveniles and two other adults. The juveniles were determined to just be riding with Slater and the adults were interviewed and later released, Steinberg said.

Steinberg added the case is active and ongoing as witnesses, also associates of Slater, outside of Thomas County have been identified.
