GLEN ST. MARY — Trying to navigate through Baker County’s lineup is a daunting task for any team.

It was even more difficult for Suwannee without standout pitcher Brandi Davis, who was injured and unavailable for Tuesday’s regional semifinal.

Baker County hit five home runs — three from Hayleigh Mulkey and two by Madison Kennedy — en route to a 12-3 victory.

For the third consecutive season, SHS was knocked out of the playoffs by Baker County at Baker County.

“It’s our No. 1 pitcher, but there’s no excuses,” Suwannee coach Jeff Smith said of not having Davis in the circle. “We didn’t play bad. They just outhit us.”

The Bulldogs fell behind 5-0 after two innings, but they got right back in it with one swing from Skylar Redish.

The junior catcher hit a three-run home run in the third inning, driving an outside pitch to right-center field to get SHS on the board.

The momentum at the plate carried into the next inning as Suwannee loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth.

The key hit never came though. BCHS (21-7) starter Macy Jackson got out of the jam to give the Wildcats a huge boost.

“It’s hard when you have the bases loaded, playing a good team, and you can’t get at least one run across,” Smith said. “We had bases loaded two times and couldn’t get the timely hit.”

After that big out, BCHS went on to outscore Suwannee 5-0 in the final three innings.

The Bulldogs finished the season with a 16-13 record.
