HAHIRA — Two students from Hahira Elementary School won bicycles for their perfect attendance during an honors day ceremony Thursday morning.
The Hahira Honeybee Festival provided the bicycles for the students.
Helen Petitjean, representing the Hahira Honeybee Festival, awarded the bicycles to Miles Green, fifth grader, and Katherine Spell, second grader.
The school recognized Petitjean for her contributions to the fifth graders, Hahira Elementary School and the community by giving her a peace lily.
Petitjean has played an integral role in providing a celebration for fifth graders who reach honor roll for at least three out of the four nine week grading periods, said Christy Trimble, a fifth-grade teacher.
Petitjean “began this tradition 25 years ago when her son, Cannon, was in fifth grade,” Trimble said during the honors day ceremony.
“She would procure all of the donations, come and do all of the cooking and take care of everything. Now, she continues the tradition along with one of our community partners, the Hahira Honeybee Committee.”
